Beautiful framed Ocean Scape Oil Painting by Todd Kenyon
Dimensions: 72" x 44"
About Todd Kenyon Moving to Southern California in 1998 from the East Coast, Todd Kenyon became inspired to create a body of work that captures the unique beauty of the Laguna Beach coastline. Todd’s paintings can be seen year-round at his studio connected to the purelagunabeach gallery. Todd’s work captures the multifaceted spirit of the ocean. Step back and the viewer is taken in by the force of the crashing surf, a step closer shifts the focus to subtle color fields that mimic the reflective quality of light against sand and water. The Night Sea 1978 Lithograph, hand colored with colored pencil Diptych 65 ¼ by 34 ¼ inches Edition 30 The Night Sea
The Night Sea series really began in Berlin in 1977. In December, the Northern darkness descends, and one is reminded of a time when Medieval man stayed indoors for the month. I found myself without a sun-filled landscape for the first time. I spent the days in the Dahlem Museum looking at the dark Rembrandts and Goya’s and was particularly struck by the late Goya etchings of the strange creatures flying through the night. A small stone relief of Jacob’s ladder with men going from the neither world to heaven to the neither world and back also caught my eye. I thought a lot about the descent of Orpheus, and Christ into the underworld. I kept imagining myself at the bottom of the Bardo tankas and wandering through the lower infernos of Bosch paintings. There is a myth call the Night Sea Journey, the most popular being Jonah and the whale. The hero is swallowed and taken to the bottom of the sea. He frees himself by lighting a fire and emerges transformed by the experience. I had a dream in which I was on an island and floating in a black sea in the dark. Sea turtles and scientists were guiding me through the waters showing me the beauty of the sea at night. The week I returned to New York from Berlin, I got a grant to go to Australia. There I did my first night diving, and the Night Sea Series began.
Ann McCoy received her B.F.A. from the University of Colorado in 1969 and an M. A. in sculpture and drawing from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1972. Her first works were wooden sculptures of mountains; later, she made cast resin sculptures of icebergs. In the early 1970s, after she abandoned sculpture for monumentally scaled drawings done in colored pencil, her success came fast. By the mid-1970s she was a nationally acclaimed artist with some solo shows to her credit. In 1974, McCoy first exhibited drawings of underwater explorations, for which she is largely known today. A scuba diver since 1968, McCoy works from photographs of the plant and animal life of the subaquatic world, creating drawings and hand-colored lithographs distinctive for their meticulous detail and surrealistic mood. There is a reserve price on this auction item of $6,500. Value: $7,500.00 Generously donated by an anonymous donor.-Ann McCoy

I have been tusked by an elephant, almost eaten by a sperm whale, knocked off my feet by a rhinoceros, embraced by a jaguar, given a haircut by a tiger shark, chased by a hippo and a black mamba, brought to my knees by malaria and dengue. But I was always able to avoid the greatest danger of all. Never stop exploring the things that open you, or that you love.
About Gregory Colbert Photographer/filmmaker Gregory Colbert is the creator of the exhibition Ashes and Snow, an immersive experience of nature that combines photographic artworks, films, and soundscapes, housed in a purpose-built traveling structure called the Nomadic Museum. To date, Ashes and Snow has attracted over 10 million visitors, making it the most attended exhibition by any living artist in history. Colbert was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1960. He began his career in Paris in 1983 making documentary films on social issues. His first exhibition, Timewaves, opened to wide critical acclaim in 1992 at the Museum of Elysée in Switzerland. For the next ten years, Colbert went off the grid and did not publicly share his art or show any films. He began traveling the world to photograph and film wondrous interactions between animals and humans. After ten years passed, Colbert returned to present Ashes and Snow at the Arsenale in Venice, Italy, in 2002. With his debut, Photo magazine declared, “A new master is born.” The New York Times, in an article by Alan Riding, stated, “The power of the images comes less from their formal beauty than from the way they envelop the viewer in their mood. . . .They are simply windows to a world in which silence and patience govern time.” Ashes and Snow has been described as "extraordinary" by the Economist, and "distinctive . . . monumental in every sense" by the Wall Street Journal. Stern magazine described the photographs as "fascinating," and Vanity Fair named Gregory Colbert in its "Best of the Best." Selected Works Printed on Cartiera Magnani paper first created in 1404. Produced in Tuscany on a machine dating back to the early 1800s, this handmade cotton fiber paper replicates precisely the paper Napoleon chose for the announcement of his marriage to Maria Luisa D’Austria. The binding utilizes an Oriental method to accommodate the custom size of the thread, along with binding techniques common at the end of the 17th century. Each page is hand cut one at a time, a total of 456 tears per book. Printed at twice the standard density, the images possess exquisite resolution. While the final images appear as sepia, the printing utilizes up to nine colors per page, finished with a transparent varnish. Interior pages are printed in Italy. Both the catalog cover and collector’s box are handcrafted from Nepalese paper coated with beeswax, and tied with thread stained with hibiscus tea leaves and Nepalese beads.Gregory Colbert

The inspiration for Zaria Forman's artwork began in early childhood when she traveled with her family throughout several of the world's most remote landscapes, which were the subject of her mother's fine art photography. She considers it her life’s mission to convey the urgency of climate change through her work. She has traveled north to the Arctic to capture the unfolding story of polar melt, and south to the Equator to document subsequent rising seas. Her drawings explore moments of transition, turbulence, and tranquility in the landscape, allowing viewers to emotionally connect with a place they may never have the chance to visit. She chooses to convey the beauty, as opposed to the devastation. If you can experience the sublimity of these landscapes, perhaps you will be inspired to protect and preserve them. Zaria’s works have been in publications such as National Geographic Magazine, Huffington Post, and the Smithsonian Magazine. Zaria was featured on Good Day New York, Fox News, and interviewed by Lucy Yang on ABC7 Eyewitness News. In 2015, Zaria delivered a TED Talk at TEDTalksLive NYC, which will be featured on PBS in the spring of 2016. Her drawings have been used in the set design for the Netflix TV series House of Cards. Zaria’s most recent achievements include participation in Banksy's D ismaland, and a solo exhibition at Winston Wächter Fine Art in New York in September and October of 2015. Born in South Natick, Massachusetts, Zaria currently works and resides in Brooklyn, New York. She studied at the Student Art Centers International in Florence, Italy and received a BS in Studio Arts at Skidmore College in New York. This Hi-Quality Print of an original drawing. Framed in a white frame. Contains an authentication sticker on the back of print with the artist’s signature Value: $2,000 Generously donated by Zaria Forman

"For many years I have been captivated by the beauty and diversity of the Southern California landscape, and the abundant variety of flowers it offers. My goal when painting outdoors is to capture immediate impressions of color, light and texture in the landscape and in florals. Whether working in pastel, oil or colored pencil, I find painting in plein air is the best approach to capturing the essence of California's landscapes. The use of photographs and sketches is sometimes necessary, however, when conditions do not permit working outdoors. In the studio or on location, my painting is a continuous process of evolution as I strive to grow as an artist through self-discovery and study."
